Mark McGowan promises WA will post ‘substantial surplus’ a year earlier than predicted

Premier Mark McGowan has promised WA will post a “substantial surplus” a year earlier than predicted as he boasted that his economic restraints had put the state back in the black.

In a set piece speech to a the CEDA business forum, the premier said his government would post a surplus in the “hundreds of millions of dollars” in 2019-20, a year earlier than predicted.

“And we will not be just squeaking over the line either,” he said.

The government had previously predicted a surplus of $1.3 billion in 2020-2021.
