"We had a federal government years ago which was stupid enough to allow these companies to export any amount of gas they wanted from Australia without reserving any of it for our own people," said Mr Carpenter.
In 2006, WA was also confronting the "ridiculous" prospect of a gas shortage, prompting Mr Carpenter to implement the nation's first, and most comprehensive, reservation scheme which forces exporters to set aside 15 per cent of the gas they produce for the WA market.
