One metric I do pay attention to is premium or discount to NTA.
I won't pay a double digit premium no matter how much I like the fund. Hence I have avoided WAM, WAX or buying anymore FOR whilst at premiums of 10 - 20%, but am waiting patiently for opportunities. But nor will I sell my LICs for that reason alone as the premium may persist for God knows how long. If there is a discount to NTA I am happy to top up or buy in, but only if I like the fund for other reasons. I won't buy a mediocre quality fund just because of a discount to NTA, as this can also persist indefinitely or become an even greater discount.
Short term trading of LICs is not a great way to make money IMO
