    Sydney - Wednesday - October 26: (RWE Aust Business News) -

    The Consumer Price Index rose 0.9pc in the September quarter compared with 0.6pc in the June quarter, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said.

    It rose 3.0pc through the year to September quarter.

    Contributing most to the overall increase this quarter were automotive fuel (+11.6pc), house purchase (+1.2pc), domestic holiday travel and accommodation (+3.4pc), property rates and charges (+5.0pc),
    beer (+1.8pc), overseas holiday travel and accommodation (+2.0pc), fruit (+3.0pc), restaurant meals (+1.4pc), rents (+0.6pc), electricity (+1.7pc)
    and water and sewerage (+3.0pc).

    Partially offsetting these increases were falls in
    pharmaceuticals (-4.8pc), deposit and loan facilities (-0.7pc), audio, visual and computing equipment (-1.7pc) and telecommunication (-0.7pc).

    The All groups CPI would have risen 0.5pc in the September quarter if the effect of automotive fuel was excluded.
