It seems the threat of getting sent to Malaysia is not detering 'asylum seekers' from coming here.

"Latest boat brings 66 asylum seekers

ANOTHER 66 asylum seekers have arrived in Australia by boat, bringing to more than 400 the number who have come since the government announced its people swap deal with Malaysia.

HMAS Bundaberg intercepted the boat southeast of Christmas Island this afternoon.

An initial count suggested there were 66 passengers and four crew on the vessel, initially detected by a patrol plane.

"The passengers will be transferred to Christmas Island pending removal to another country," Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor said in a statement.

The boat is the eighth to arrive since the government announced its controversial deal with Malaysia more than two months ago.

The passengers will join more than 340 asylum seekers already in legal limbo on Christmas Island waiting for the government to finalise the details of the deal.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced the plan to send up to 800 asylum seekers to Malaysia in exchange for 4000 already processed refugees on May 7.

The government has been saying for several weeks that a final deal is imminent."
