Yes the tantalum consumption is around 1200t. You can see it on the world production (2000 & 2014) graphic I put on my post above. Here it is again.

No LTR alone would not potentially flood that demand p.a many times over. LTR has 23Mlbs of Ta2O5 as pure metal yes. That makes ~10,000t. Only 8 years of supply for world markets. There is a huge market for it.

Do not underestimate the tantalum potential of KV project.

Tantalum production is a high potential company maker business and it's easy to produce when you already have it in your lithium ore. Very profitable business.

Pilbara Minerals was trying to accelerate tantalum production in 2014 before they accelerate their lithium exploration. See PLS's anns here "Capital Raising to Commence Tantalum Production and Accelerate". https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/1640/1640923-16ed30aa19b772e675e4e90a3e1dc72b.jpg

It's not easy to produce. Tantalum can be found in LCT pegmatites together with TIn or Lithium (depends on the exposed and mined geological formation and location of LCT pegmatite). This is nearly all in Australia. The other form is coltan, which is Columbium (niobium) and Tantalum ore. (Coltan is named by the Africans). I think Brasil's production comes from a Niobium mine as well.

GAM is making good money from the tantalum rights from the Greenbushes and Wodgina mines.

There aren't many producers either. As you can see on the graphic above it was mainly supplied by Australian mines mainly Wodgina and Greenbushes before.

It was being mined through artisanal mining from Central Africa but it's disrupted now. That is a terrible mining operation. (Last week 40 people killed in that type of mining operation there) They collect them in the bags in coltan form, carry them for kilometers and sell them to the chinese traders in the town. Then it is being shipped by false documents obtained from/through Belgium to China to the small producers. There is huge radiation danger involved in it too. These artisanal mining operation supply will be very small soon if it is not come to a halt.

While the world consumption increases there is still no substitute for tantalum in the related applications.

See the tantalum price graphic below, it was US$900,000 per tonne in 2000. It was US$150,000 pt in 2018.
