Two Meekathara JP's had a good session at the Meekathara Hotel, got rotten drunk, and then wobbled home at closing time on their pushbikes.
The next day, they got together, full of alcoholic remorse, and felt very ashamed at the poor example they had set to the community.
They decided to "give themselves up" and be punished.
They go down to the courthouse whereby one JP sits down at the "bench", while the other stands in the defendant's dock.
The presiding JP asks his colleague: "You are charged with being drunk in charge of a bicycle in Main St., Meekathara last night. How do you plead?"
    Defendant JP:"Guilty Your Worship!"
Presiding JP:" You are hereby fined $10, and cautioned not to do it again. Next Case!"

They then reverse roles, with the previous defendant sitting at the bench.

Presiding JP:"You are charged with being drunk in charge of a bicycle in Main St. Meekathara last night. How do you plead?"
    Defendant JP:"Guilty Your Worship!"
Presiding JP:"You are hereby fined $20, and cautioned not to do it again."
Defendant JP: "Hey, that's not fair! I only fined you $10!!"
Presiding JP:" Yes, but this sort of behaviour has to be stamped out, and this is the second case of this nature to come before the bench this morning alone...."
