It's seems a big thing and popular down here in Melbourne to re home greyhounds.
Yesterday waiting for the bank to open I chatted, as I'm want to do, to a chap with one.
He sure sang his dogs praise and she was delightful.
Told me he had another older friend who did the same and was persuaded by him to get his dog.
I know you said you didn't want a large dog, but this guy told me just how docile and lazy
    his greyhound was.
Still needs to be walked twice a day of course.

    Re the Bichon Frise:
Down here in Melbourne we have short courses on many subjects at the local TAFE.
One of the courses is on dog grooming and it is something you might like to consider even
if you are not planning to do the actual clipping yourself, but more out of interest.
You would gain much I think, in how to do a daily groom of a Bichon.
Some classes are out of share trading hours and you are asked to bring a dog along
for practicing on. Something you may be interested in if such courses are available to you
    in your area???

Just a few more of my thoughts.
