    iSOFT and Ambicotec agree SAAS partnership for radiology solutions

    iSOFT has signed a partnership agreement with Ambicotec to offer iSOFT Radiology and iSOFT PACS on a software as a service (SaaS) basis in Germany.
    The option gives radiologists access to a complete solution - via a secure internet connection - without needing to invest in software licenses and costly server technology, so reducing costs significantly. A centrally managed service also avoids local technology issues with significant improvements in service levels and offers access to new services at lower cost.


    "We have found that radiologists are increasingly looking for consistent and centrally managed IT systems that offer greater flexibility," said Dr Alexander von Smekal, co-owner of Ambicotec. "Many also want to set their focus on their core competencies in radiology to offer their patients the best possible quality of care. With our application services we offer practices and radiology departments high-end technology that allows the operation of an integrated imaging and archiving system without having to deal with the necessary infrastructure themselves. This means that more resources are focused on care.


    Financial resources that would otherwise be used for IT support and licensing agreements can now be invested in areas that help grow the business. Customers at Saarbrcken and Augsburg are already using Ambicotecs service to access iSOFTs radiology applications. Several options are available to allow an individual practice or department to scale the service according to needs. Images and diagnostic reports can now be made available in all departments and in remote locations more easily so improving the quality of medical services. iSOFTs radiology solutions will be hosted at Amicotecs data centre at Frankfurt.


    "As a provider of IT solutions in a highly competitive market such as the health sector, we must always be on the lookout for new opportunities to position our solutions and to develop new services," said Peter Herrmann, managing director, iSOFT Health. "We need innovative partners with new ideas. The principles of application services and the SaaS approach are already known to us from other sectors. Now we want to use this successful model in the healthcare industry and so give radiology practices and institutions of all sizes the ability to deliver better quality of care and use savings to fund future growth, Herrmann said.

    There is a growing trend in Germany and Europe generally for SaaS as it allows customers a high degree of flexibility at lower cost.
