Islam, the Babi religion and the Bahai Faith all forbid alcohol consumption. Yes, many things have also contributed to disintegrations including religion. The Bahai Faith recommends that if it was contributing to the forces of disintegration at any level of society, then it would be best to leave the religion and put your time elsewhere. The prohibition of alcohol is not enforced on anyone. One does not HAVE to be a Bahai. Being a Bahai has its challenges that one must face to overcome knowing that to do so, personal growth is assured. Having said that, not drinking alcohol is very low in the pecking order of things which are important for living a sound Bahai life. There is no sheep here my friend. All people in the world are free to make a CONSCIOUS decision on the value of becoming a Bahai or not. Once one decides to do so, it is readily acknowledged that we are all on a spiritual journey striving personally to live the Bahai life. We are all at different stages of our journey and it is for us to find ways in which to progress along the path while never looking at where in the journey other people are. Nothing sheepish or dogmatic about that. Kam
