The Interstate 95 express lanes have taken in an average of nearly $103,000 each weekday during the first month of toll collections, according to the first figures released by Transurban, the company that operates the lanes.
The company on Thursday released figures covering the period between Dec. 29, when tolls first started being collected, and Jan. 31. The lanes opened on Dec. 14, but the first two weeks allowed toll-free use.

So far, usage of the express lanes has been just what Transurban expected, spokesman Michael McGurk said.
According to Transurban, there has been an average of 37,000 vehicle trips on the reversible lanes each weekday.
The average toll price has been $4.01.
Not all travelers pay to use the lanes. Commuters in vehicles with at least three occupants use the lanes free. The High Occupancy Vehicle traffic accounted for 33 percent of weekday users.
Motorcycles and buses also can use the lanes for free.
Transurban said it has tallied more than 200,000 “unique customers traveling with an E–ZPass or E–ZPass Flex ’’
Some 95 percent of express lane drivers are using the transponders which pay the tolls electronically or allow commuters in carpools and vanpools to ride on the lanes without charge.
Nearly 30 percent of express lanes users also have been taking advantage of the toll-lane network, which includes the Interstate 495 express lanes.
That network allows drivers from the Fredericksburg area to go all the way to Tysons Corner.
The express lanes have variable tolls, ranging from 20 cents to 80 cents per mile, depending on traffic congestion.
The new lanes stretch from Garrisonville Road to Edsall Road on Interstate 395.
During the morning commute, northbound traffic can exit onto the main I–95 lanes, the I–495 express lanes or the I–395 HOV lanes at Edsall Road.
The 9-mile, two-lane stretch from North Stafford to Dumfries is brand new. A third lane was added to a 14-mile stretch of the HOV lanes north of Dumfries as part of the project.
The nearly $1 billion express lanes project was a joint venture between the state and Transurban and Fluor–Lane, private companies that put up most of the money to build the toll road in the median of the interstate.
