It's not always the case that the parent/partner/spouse isn't giving love. It might be that the patient himself feels unworthy of receiving it. But either way, treatment would come in the form of touch, listening, attention - all the things they have missed.
But it wouldn't come in the form of "ok, let's do treatment xyz to fix this", for the reason mentioned.
