Don't do as I do.
I told you I was running out of firewood. So I went down to cut down this dead stringy bark the other day. When I say stringy bark though, it's not a proper stringy bark.
As my mentor, an old timer who earned his living cutting trees for mine props and whatever, told me years ago, there aren't many pure tree species anymore. They've somehow all crossbred over time.
That was his theory anyway. So I start to cut this tree, I'm about half way through the second cut and the saw stopped. So I went to restart it, but as you sometimes do without thinking, I put it on full choke and it was flooded.
So, I thought, either I pull it apart and clean it or I pull and pull on it hoping it will start or I just leave it as it is till tomorrow. The wind might blow it over but it's not going to do any harm to man or beast. So I left it.
Next day it hadn't blown down. It's just miraculous how a tiny thin strip of wood can hold a great weight of a tree up, even in some wind.
All it took to bring it down was a slight tickle with the saw.
A day in a life.
