Hardman given go-ahead to survey Uganda's Lake Albert

09/5/2003 - OGI: Perth) Hardman Resources has received permission from the Ugandan Miistry of Energy and Mineral Development to proceed with its proposed seismic acquisition over the upper portion of Lake Albert in the Albertine Grabe, Area 3 in Uganda. Rueben Kashambuzi, commissioner of Oil and Petroleum in the Ministry, said today that Hardman, which was licensed to explore the area in 2001, will be joining Heritage Oil in exploring the Lake Albert Basin.
Hardman is expected to begin work on Lake Albert soon. According to Kashambuzi, the company has already brought in its equipment and constructed an operations camp from which it will be carrying out geological and geophysical studies, including seismic acquisition on Lake Albert from a modified lake steamer that is outfitted with new digital data recording instrumentation.
Just to the south of the acquisition area, Heritage has discovered oil with its Turaco-1 wildcat well, in the Makondo area of the Semliki Basin, onshore Lake Victoria. That well showed the probability of 1.2 billion bbl of oil in reserves. The company is drilling its second well there now.

Kashambuzi said Uganda has five prospective oil exploring areas along the western Rift Valley that encompass an area of almost 22,000 sq km. Of the five, he said, three are still available for licensing. Hardman holds Block 2 and Heritage has Block 3 in a 50-50 partnership with Energy Africa. The remaining areas are the 4,285 sq km Pakwach area, the 5,913 sq km Lake Edward and Lake George Basin, and the 6,040 sq km Rhino Camp.
