They are no where near full sovereign capability at around 40% with 60% still being imported!
To me, this illustrates just how difficult and long a road it is to completely rebuild an entire supply chain, even for the super efficient Japanese.

This is the battle that all western nations will face who want to fully decouple from China's monopoly.
It will take intelligence, massive investment in projects and technical ability. and extreme patience.

This is not an overnight fix and will take multiple mines, multiple refiners, multiple recyclers and multiple alloy/magnet to achieve.

The path that the west has embarked on to decouple has begun, and there is no turning back now, even if Xi turns back on the RE supply.

The US alone is a behemoth, with multiple RE dependant industries who are hungry for new supply.

So we are looking at literally decades of huge investment ahead of us....and if we are lucky, that may just get us to 40% sovereign supply....just like Japanese.

So hang in there people, there's a lot more to play out with this narrative.
And we are on multiple national radars to take full advantage on what is playing out before our very eyes.

Could that be construed as a week's worth?, a 24 hour period?

Anyways, you lot are a bit harsh on Mr Brett, they are taking "small steps"
