    Ceramic lands deal to supply fuel cells

    Melbourne-based Ceramic Fuel Cells has gained its first major sales deal. On 27February 2008, it announced a five-year EUR150 million ($A240.7 million)agreement with Dutch utility, Nuon. The fuel cells convert renewable fuels andnatural gas into power and heat. It is hoped that production of the fuel cellswill begin by June 2009. A EUR12.4 million factory will be constructed in Germany.

    Australia's Ceramic Fuel Cells has secured its first volume order for itsfuel cells that provide electricity and hot water for homes from natural gas.Instead of burning the gas, the fuel cells use a catalytic reaction to producetwo kilowatts of power. Netherlands energy utility Nuon will buy 50,000 of thefuel cells over five years from mid-2009 on the condition that performancetargets are met. Ceramic Fuel Cells has also announced it will spend EUR12.4m($A20m) building a new plant at Heinsberg in Germany to produce the cells
