European shares suddenly slid into negative territory on Friday morning after US bellwether General Electric reported an unexpected drop in profits, knocking confidence across the Atlantic.
The FTSE Eurofirst 300 was 1 per cent lower at 1,290 just after midday, while Germany’s Xetra Dax fell 1.3 per cent. France’s CAC 40 fell 0.6 per cent to 4,830.30
