AUSDRILL subsidiary Energy Drilling Australia will soon start operations in Papua New Guinea, with its drilling rig scheduled to leave Brisbane tomorrow.

The voyage will take 11 days to reach the port of Madang in Northern PNG, with the drilling rig set for transportation via a barge. A local trucking company will then haul the equipment by road to the Heritage Oil drilling sites. It took three days to load the rig which was sprayed and waterproofed yesterday and checked off by maritime safety experts today. Marking EDA’s first international contract with Heritage Oil, the company described the win as a significant coup. “Winning our first international job is a very significant step for the business,” EDA business development manager James Tuohy said. “While this project is not without its challenges in terms of getting the rig to site, along with our crew of 16, we are confident that our experience in Australia’s key energy regions over the past five years will put us in good stead to carry out this project in a safe, timely and effective manner for Heritage Oil.”[/table]
