    From today's Melbourne Age:

    quote

Smoking bans in Victorian gaming venues have accelerated the decline in Tabcorp's gaming machine revenues in hotels and clubs.

The gaming and wagering group yesterday revealed a revenue slump of 8.8 per cent from September 1 - when the restrictions were introduced - to November 30.

Soon after the laws came into effect, Tabcorp said revenue was down 6.6 per cent from September 1 to October 19 and that this could cost the group $40 million this year if the downturn persisted.

Add to this setback the fact poker machine restrictions/reforms due to be introduced in 2008, such as $10 maximum bet, banning autoplay, etc.

And also that current gaming licenses' expire in 2012, at which time the whole gaming industry will be re-structered.

All adds up to a big cloud hanging over the future of TAH.
