The subject of ocean going fishing fleets competing for diminishing returns is as old as the Cod Wars in Europe, and that goes back a while.
I started a thread recently about China basically decimating the waters off South America but now I hear about an even bigger example of giving the finger to international covenants. This is the case of the Great Fleets of China (and North Korea) vs the poor little rocket propelled squid, a delicacy of several Asian countries which can actually propel itself from the water and through the air for about 30 metres.
Now these squid are attracted to light, so what are the Chinese doing? They arrange their vessels in such a way that they can brightly illuminate an area about the size of a football stadium which pulls in a football crowd of squid.
Factory fishing the world's resources brought to you by your friendly neighnourhood Communist superpower. There seems no end to pillaging by this country. If it's not loan sharking - otherwise known as the BRI - it's plundering the seas.
