My account had informed me a few weeks ago that the ATO has frozen CPI Indexing at Sept 99 and that you are not able to apply it to any capital gain after this period.
eg/ if you had bought shares in 1997 and sold them in 2001 then you can only apply the CPI index to your capital gain up until Sept 99. Also would this mean that any capital gains made after sept 99 will not have any CPI applied to the capital gain what so ever???
If this is the case, and I'm not going to go on about how much this digusts me atm, I would like someone who understands and knows of this change to CPI to confirm and perhaps add some of his/ hers own comments or views. Basically I am asking this question as I trade under a company name, therefore not entitled to the 50% CGT discount for holding shares longer than 12 months.
Many thanks in advance.
