conflict of interest

The Victorian Government has been accused of permitting a conflict of interest on an infrastructure advisory council. The conflict relates to the chairmanship of the Infrastructure Planning Council by Michael Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is a member of the board of Pacific Hydro and its largest shareholder. Apparently acting partly on the advice of the council, the Victorian Government has granted Pacific Hydro the right to build the State's largest electricity-generating windfarm. Fitzpatrick claims he made the Government aware of possible conflicts of interest, but says the recommendations adopted by it indicate the council had little influence in matters germane to his business interests. This position is echoed by a spokeswoman for the Victorian Government.
