Australian online broker CommSec achieved its highest-ever day of client trading on Monday.

CommSec booked 28,237 trades worth over $248 million on Monday, topping the previous record of 27,337 set on September 1, 2003.

CommSec said trading remained strong on Tuesday, again breaking the old record with 27,829 trades worth over $230 million.

"This new record and the continuing brisk trading highlight the current confidence in the market," CommSec general manager Michael Blomfield said.

"CommSec has only exceeded 27,000 trades four times in our history - including twice this week - and this is the first time we've cracked the 28,000 mark."

The high levels of client trading were likely to continue going forward, Mr Bloomfield added.

"The Australian economy remains in good shape, companies continue to record good profits and remain upbeat about earnings growth over the current financial year," he said.
