I have been wondering for some time why the majors have chosen to cut FAR out of the action and act as though there was no case to answer over the PE. Fact is that COP did indeed choose to ignore FAR. As for the reason, there have been many, many comments thus far. I have not tried to give a definitive answer here but just looking at the broad picture. Happy to withdraw this conjecture if proven otherwise. Underlying motivations usually come down to very basic issues (in this case, I am proposing it is "give me the money, with confidence"). Did COP just stuff up or did they deliberately walk past FAR? I guess the arbitration ruling will provide some understanding.
Yes, I accept that WPL could only pursue COP over an adverse ruling on the arbitration, which I would think they most likely would do. Likely they would also seek to buy out FAR on the COP percentage of SNE, or proportion thereof, because that seems a better business approach.
We are still left with Senegal. Everybody wants them on side.
