    Building approvals up 5.3 per cent in April

    Sydney - Monday - June 3: (AAP) Australian building approvals
    rose 5.3 per cent to 15,056 units in April, seasonally adjusted, from an
    upwardly revised 14,299 units in March, the Australian Bureau of
    Statistics said.
    In the year to April, building approvals rose 46.8 per cent.

    Income from sales by manufacturers up 2.4 per cent

    Sydney - Monday - June 3: (AAP) The estimate of income from
    sales by manufacturers in the March quarter, in seasonally adjusted
    chain volume measures, rose 2.4 per cent to $63.569 billion, the
    Australian Bureau of Statistics said.
    This is 5.5 per cent higher than the year ago figure.
    Income from sales by wholesalers in the December quarter in
    adjusted chain volumes measures was estimated to have fallen 0.7
    per cent to $58.034 billion.
    This is 5.5 per cent higher than the year ago figure.
    Estimated inventories at the end of the March quarter, in chain
    volume measures, rose 0.9 per cent from the previous quarter to
    $89.790 billion, adjusted.
    The result puts inventories 1.1 per cent ahead of the March
    quarter last year.
