    On December 6, BRW Daily looked at some of the best quotes in what has been a remarkable year for Australian business. The year is not over, but the news keeps coming, with recent developments such as the announcement of a new chief executive at David Jones and a new chairman at AMP, the wrapping up of the HIH Insurance royal commission, Rodney Adler's criminal charges, and so on.

    "I have no doubt that they [the Australian Securities & Investments Commission] pursued me because my name is Whitlam." - Nick Whitlam, after being banned from acting as a company director for five years

    "I cannot ignore the winds that are blowing." - AMP chief executive Paul Batchelor, three weeks before he quit

    "I think we would feel we have failed if AMP were to flounder and be taken over." - AMP chief executive Andrew Mohl

    "I'm sure everybody thinks that when I was chief executive of BHP Billiton, I was way overpaid. And I was, there's no question about it." - Paul Anderson, who was paid $18.4 million in 2001-02
