I remember travelling down to”Waverly” to the footy on a few occasionjt was on the wrong side of Melbourne from Bendigo in the arse end of nowhere back then.
Travelled down by bus and car on different occasions.
A real pain to get to....took forever even once we got into central Melbourne.
no public transport,,,, as you mentioned .....but no good for anyone
from north or west of Melbourne.
i
it was in the wrong location FULL STOP.
and “politically”it was never going to happen that another stadium would outshine the G.
anyway.
just a bit of nostalgia, 30 plus years ago
Went down by bus with a junior footy side my son was playing in
cant renembef the match we saw but one of the other fathers on the bus who I sat with
was “Delicate” Des Dixon.
knew him quite well then and saw him often.
Haven’t seen him for a while but he is still in Bendigo.. an
old man these days.......and I’m not too far behind him.
You’ve got your “Luke’s “ mixed up
sir Kenneth.......not issac
As already stated
MCG is CENTRAL to all .....from north south east or west of Victoria
and does have good public transport with trams and trains in ALL directions.
Cant follow your logic of Waverly Park being 20 minutes from Chadstone shopping centre.
MCG is 10 minutes from Melbourne CBD which is a far bigger shopping centre than Chadstone.
But so what ...it’s irrelevant.
And what are the complaints you keep referring to about the facilities at the G
the patron facilities have been upgraded and are modern and outstanding.
the pitch of course is another matter
a few truckloads Merri Creek soil.
the pitch no matter in which stadium it was located is a product of the curators.
not a function of geographic location.
so don’t blame the stadium.
it is however an ongoing disgrace.
the board of the Melbourne cricket Club who ultimately are responsible for cricket at the ground and therefore the pitch, should hang their collective heads in shame for what has been a long standing ongoing problem.and they should know what needs to be done to fix it.
ill leave it there
