    @daicosisgod; during my time with the CRB I used to repair potholes, bridge approaches, sunken sections of roads and drive tip trucks.

    The damage done to road pavements is proportional to the weight of the vehicle and its speed. Today's b-doubles are so powerful their tyres rip the stone from asphalt and act like sandpaper on other stone embedded in the asphalt. Road surfaces which used to last decades now last months.

    As for EVs, SUVs etc, IMO vehicle registration should reflect that weight and the vehicle's power - users should pay for what they do to our roads!

    Longer term we should be removing as many long-haul heavy vehicles from our roads as we can, resurrecting the role of freight trains and preferably electrifying them.
