Lifted from a 2009 SMH article:

“THE story of Specialty Fashion Group involves many respected names in Sydney's expatriate South African Jewish community. It was founded as Miller's Retail Group in 1992 by Ian Miller and Gary Perlstein, active in Jewish social and religious circles and described by associates as "low-key, popular and wholesome". Their company specialised in affordable women's workwear and leisurewear, and listed publicly in 1998. Miller was chief executive until 2003, when he handed over to Perlstein.

Miller's steadily increased its revenues and profits until 2005, when a write-down of inventories and the closure of more than 80 stores resulted in a loss of $103.4 million. At that time, Geoff Levy, the rugby-mad former South African executive for the investment firm Investec, took over as chairman and set about a company restructure.

Levy, once a partner with the law firm Freehills, had also been a director of the Ten Network, and in senior positions with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is well known in arts and sporting circles as a producer of Kokodaand other films, and as a prime mover behind the ill-fated World Rugby Corporation, which tried to create a breakaway international professional competition in 1995.

Within a year, the number of stores owned by Miller's was rationalised from 1064 to 714, and revenues fell by half to $513 million. In 2006 Miller's changed its name to Specialty Fashion Group, reinventing itself with a leaner, tougher philosophy.”
