Australia's foreign policy should give weighted  priority to:

    -our national security

-our national economic interests (many instances common to our security interests)

    -our immediate neighbours

-the racial-ethnic composition of Australia as a multicultural society.

-the secular nature of our society

We should have no reason to blindly follow the USA because the USA, being a world power with the reserve currency has different foreign policy priorities.

We simply have to sit down with post Trump America and qualify our relationship and assert our independance which should be understandable

to America: they fought for their independence; we didn't.Due to our location, we are an Asian country, not American or European, and our foreign policy should focus on our region , not globally because we are not a global power and not behind the coat tails of Uncle Sam with the fantasy of being a Global Power. Canada who has the biggest land border with the USA manages to avoid asslicking; instead it sells the Yanks toilet paper!
