Aust Silicon granted consent to develop carbon plant 14:04, Wednesday, 1 May 2002
Sydney - Wednesday - May 1: (RWE) - Australian Silicon Ltd has been granted development consent by the NSW Minister for Planning for the carbon reductant facility near Moruya - one of the four key components for the integrated silicon metal project. The development consent ensures a 20-year high quality charcoal supply to the Australian Silicon Project. Australian Silicon is developing a timber plantation strategy to provide timber, and hence high quality carbon reductant, to the project after the term of the current timber supply agreement with State Forests of NSW. Details of the timber plantation strategy will be announced when the business plan and feasibility is completed, expected in the third quarter. "The Carbon Reductant Facility development consent enables Australian Silicon to finalise integrated design and documentation for project finance and is a major step forward to the development of a silicon metal industry on the east coast of Australia," directors said. Shares in Australian Silicon were up 1.5c to 19c this afternoon.
