I take it that you're referring to in particular thematic ETF's? Don't fool yourself. Market weighted ETF's have proven themselves over long durations. Even an equal weighted ETF such as MVW will likely increase in valuation and it's pace of increased dividends in the future.
And if you want exposure to a discounted LIC, look no further than DUI. Take a look at the list of ETF's held within DUI's portfolio and then consider that DUI has easily outperformed AFI over the journey whilst regularly increasing dividends.
AFIC still muddling along with their international portfolio, meanwhile...DUI just buy and hold ETF's. The crazy part is this - you can take a stake in
DUI's international ETF's and when you take into account DUI's discount to NTA and their MER - it means that collectively, you're buying not only an LIC with fully franked dividends, but you're also buying exposure to international indices AT A DISCOUNT!


Now that's a no brainer. Having just written this, I think it's time to make the switch. DUI's portfolio of holdings looks pretty good. I love the fact that they only hold a 5% weighting in BHP and a meaningful 4% weighting in Aristocrat Leisure. Considering DUI's global exposure that includes small exposure to emerging markets via a managed fund, DUI's expense ratio is 0.16%.

I'm surprised that AFIC still even has a pulse.
