Pioneer Resources said overburden extraction from the upper reaches of the Sinclair Mine Stage 1 Pollucite Pit was underway.
That will provide access to the caesium mineral pollucite, which is located about 40m below surface.
There could be a bonus for Sinclair too, because much of that overburden is high quality potassium feldspar, which could represent a secondary revenue stream. That potassium feldspar, which is used in the manufacture of high-end ceramics, sanitaryware and glassware, will be stockpiled on site while Pioneer negotiates with potential customers.
Mining contract Hampton Transport Services recently mobilised to site and completed preliminary site works to clear the way for full scale mining at the project.
