Did you miss the part where the orebody is outcropping? They even showed a photo too.
Also, some of the drill results intercept as shallow as 6m below the surface.
Here is what happens. You drill a hole close to the target, in this case the outcrop.
You then step back and drill again until you penetrate the target. Repeat.
The average depth does not mean the orebody starts at that depth, the orebody starts at the surface as an outcrop, so BP is quite correct. It is shallow. The deepest intercepts indicate the potential for a deeper pit, which means the potential for a larger/longer life operation.
