It's not random, these disasters being worse in Victoria than anywhere else. It's a product of Andrews' tough guy approach combined with poor management.

Take bushfires. This year all the forests of my childhood in East Gippsland disappeared. Am I blaming Andrews? No. But he made it worse.

When forced to make a choice between CFA volunteers and the UFU union culture of misogyny, bullying and even threats to a female Labor Minister, he sided with the bullies and misogynists, replaced the Minister and shafted the volunteers. Over 2500 CFA volunteers left. The pay bill for the union firefighters went up from $600 million when Andrews came into power to $884 million in 2019, according to the Productivity Commission's government services report. That's way more than NSW for less people.

So remember when houses, farms and whole towns had to be left to burn because there weren't enough firefighters to hold the line? Just imagine if they had those 2500 CFA volunteers that Dan Andrews had lost from the CFA. Imagine how much could have been saved.
