Just a thought about Amcom whose major customer is SingTel for Perth to Melbourne traffic. Now that SingTel owns Optus it would make sense for them to buy the Amcom IP1 system to duplicate the Optus East-West fibre link. Then Asian traffic as well as East-West traffic would be able to operate as securely as Telstra's two East-West cables.
This is just a postulation brought about by a post I saw yesterday. The submarine cables from Asia and Europe land near Perth and it makes sense to carry the traffic across the continent on terrestrial systems.
