BHP, Rio lose rail fight with Fortescue. From The Age:

Treasurer Wayne Swan ruled on Monday that BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto must share haulage railways in the west of the country with other companies, in a major win for Andrew Forrest's Fortescue Metals Group.

Swan said the rail lines in the Pilbara iron ore mining region of west Australia must be available for third parties to use for the next 20 years.

A spokesman for Fortescue said the company is "very pleased with the outcome" but realises the rails are now open to commercial negotiations.
