Police remove tent embassy fence, one arrested

A member of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy has been arrested after a police operation on the site this morning.

Police moved in just before 6.00am AEST to remove a temporary fence around a burned out building.

Embassy members estimate the police numbers at about 20 and say they were only on site for five minutes.

But they say that was long enough for one embassy resident to be arrested for breaching the peace after he resisted the fence's removal.

The fence was put in place by embassy supporters yesterday for what they claim were safety reasons.

It was done at the direction of ACT Greens MLA Kerry Tucker, who says she is puzzled at the police action.

The Federal Territories Minister Wilson Tuckey immediately declared it illegal and ordered its removal.

Mr Tuckey has also demanded the damaged building goes, a move expected in a mater of days.
