"Sometimes the best way to play a big trend isn’t the most obvious route. Iron ore is pretty well-known. But we’d rather finish with a thought not as many people know about. Here’s a bolter that few saw coming.

Mining rock phosphorous = 86% gain. Yep, rock phosphorous.

The reason, as you’ll know if you’re an Ag-investor, is fertiliser. The demand for agricultural production has pulled up the price of complementary products, like weed-killer and fertilisers. And phosphorous is a fertiliser input.

Tiny public company Minemakers (ASX:MAK) reported a 300% rise in rock-phosphorous prices a month or two back. Normally, this would be kind of disappointing. It sounds like the boat has sailed. But the fundamental picture is the same as before the price rocket took off. Food supply is insufficient. More food must be planted. That’ll take more fertiliser."
