I am not seeing that we need to radically change our lifestyles. Govts and entrepreneurs have supported R+D which has resulted in cheaper and cheaper wind and solar and, increasingly, batteries and other storage solutions are heading the same way. We're heading to a cleaner world with renewable based power and electric transport which is also likely to be cheaper. No-one is demanding you buy a Tesla tomorrow.
You are also free to pollute the globe with CO2 and burden the rest of us with the impacts of warming as much as you want. But we expect you to pay the cost of offsetting those emissions with tree plantings or other peoples compensating reductions in CO2 output.
The normal rules of the game are do unto others as you would have them do unto you. No-one has the right to inflict global warming on others. It doesn't take a government to tell you that.
