Western Australian-based Great Southern Plantations' shareholders have been advised that the company is looking to make an acquisition. Speaking at the company's annual meeting in Perth, Great Southern Plantation chairman, John Young, said that the company had both the distribution networks and capital required to acquire other companies. He said that the plantation industry was a sector that benefited significantly from economies of scale enjoyed with mergers and acquisitions. Young said he could not predict the company's earnings for the 2002 harvest, but was confident that broker forecasts of between 30 and 40 per cent growth could be achieved. Great Southern Plantations' shares gained $A0.01 to close at $A0.58 on 26 November 2002
