US criticised for loss of materials from Iraq nuclear sites
The row over the disappearance of industrial materials from former nuclear sites in Iraq has intensified.

It has been revealed that equipment and materials that could be used to make nuclear weapons have gone missing since the start of the US-led war in Iraq.

The former UN chief weapons inspector, Hans Blix, has sharply criticised the United States for losing control of the situation after the defeat of Saddam Hussein.

"All these things were tagged and they were visited by the inspectors and then in comes the United States with 200,000 people or more and occupy the country in order ostensibly to take care of weapons of mass destruction," he said.

"They lose control and the instruments and equipment that could be used or helpful in nuclear production disappear."
