Equinox confirms 1.5 km shear zone at Alturas antimony project in Canada

A program of exploration at its Alturas antimony project in Canada has enabled Equinox Resources Ltd (ASX:EQN) to define a 1.5 kilometre shear zone, featuring widths of 5 to 25 metres – which has the potential to significantly expand the mineralisation there.

Equinox has been conducting prospecting and mapping work at the project – located in the Slocan Mining Division of British Colombia – where it mapped the shear zone body, and found other indications of high-grade antimony.

The latter included historical workings which showed the presence of high-grade stibnite mineralisation – including some samples of between 90 and 100% – which suggests strong potential for high grade antimony.

Additionally, the project features a newly discovered copper-bearing boulder field which features malachite staining in altered mafic intrusive rocks hosts 2-3% fine sulphides.

Here, there is estimated to be a copper content of between 0.5% and 1.5%, and Equinox believes this points to a potential copper-rich mineralised zone underneath the surface, which could also be the source of further exploration.

High-grade mineralisation was also indicated by mafic to ultramafic rocks along the eastern extension of the shear zone, which included newly identified alteration zones, including iron carbonate and talc.

Rock and soil samples are expected to yield results later this month.

Equinox managing director Zac Komur said the results exceeded his expectations.

“These findings, combined with the project’s historical ultra-high-grade antimony mining,
reaffirm its potential for both antimony and polymetallic mineralisation,” he said.

“We look forward to receiving the assay results from this exploration campaign, which will further inform our next steps.”

At 12:47 AEST, Equinox shares are trading flat at 26.5 cents.
