Welcome to the start of Week 11, 2024. Over the weekend we got two interesting bits of news.
Firstly, the US economy added 275,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in its latest data read. This could disenchant the rally, somewhat, especially given that NVIDIA ended down -5%.
The S&P closed down -0.65% in the Friday US session. But perhaps a more meaningful catalyst for Australian sentiment is China (or perhaps not.)
China also says its CPI inflation went up 0.7% after several months of contractionary activity. One is left to wonder whether or not they’re being unfair to wonder about the veracity of that Chinese data.
Let’s hope so: a stronger China is a stronger Australian economy, whether you like it or not.
