ASX Today: uranium and iron ore slip, big week of US data

ASX News
04 Mar 2024 09:05 (AEDT)

The ASX is set to rise on Monday with futures up 0.14% near 8.30am AEDT.

The Friday session in the US saw the S&P500 end up 0.80% and the NASDAQ up 1.14%.

On Friday we saw the ASX hit two new all time highs in one session – can Aussies keep the good times rolling? We get a lot of US data this week which will give everybody food for thought, including job openings.

Keep in mind there’s no RBA Interest rate decision this week, the central bank has decided to meet less often. We also get a big Chinese policy meeting this week, starting Tuesday.

Over the weekend we saw Brent Crude remain in the territory of US$83/bbl while uranium NYMEX futures slipped below US$100/lb to US$95/lb.

Uranium prices are down -10.38% over the last month as Cameco production boosts seem to outweigh problems with production at Kazatomprom. One to watch.

SGX iron ore futures also declined to $113.20, putting into question whether Australia’s big miners can continue to post the run they did on Friday.
