CONTINUES TO INVEST

Northern continues to invest in highly prospective Browns Range Dome

ASX Announcement 18 November 2019

Highlights

  • Recent success at Dazzler confirms ‘unconformity’ prospectivity;
  • Dazzler average grade is nearly triple the grade at Wolverine and Gambit;
  • 2020 exploration plans will prioritize high-grade unconformity targets; and
  • Further reverse circulation (RC) drilling has commenced at Dazzler and other new targets.

Australian heavy rare earths producer, Northern Minerals Limited (ASX: NTU) (the Company) is pleased to provide an exploration update for the Browns Range Project in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Since the discovery of Dazzler in mid-2018, the Company has been assessing and investigating the potential of unconformity-related deposits in and around Browns Range.

This work has initially focussed on the area around Dazzler and Iceman, including a mineralised zone located between the two prospects. As a new discovery, Northern Minerals wanted to better understand the controls on mineralisation in order to assist with future targeting.

RC Drilling at Browns Range

Unconformity Related Mineralisation

Northern Minerals’ geologists first postulated the unconformity as a mineralisation target following anomalous geochemistry results in and around the scarp slope that highlights the unconformable contact.

Drilling in 2018 encountered mineralisation in the Gardiner Sandstone, above the unconformable contact with the Browns Range Metamorphics. This was unexpected as all previous intercepts were within the older metamorphic unit. The drilling also highlighted that the mineralisation in and around the contact was of a significantly higher grade than the other Browns Range deposits that have been discovered to date.

Mineralisation is believed to be structurally controlled, with northwest trending structures identified as being most likely to control mineralisation.

DRILLING AT BROWNS RANGE

arrow-down-2 Created with Sketch.

Near surface high-grade results from Dazzler drilling at Browns Range, Western Australia

ASX Announcement 12 November 2019

Highlights

  • Wide, shallow high-grade rare earth intercepts from Dazzler drilling;
  • Intercepts from surface of up to 7.71% TREO including 7,502ppm Dysprosium;
  • Drilling confirms Dazzler as a high-grade deposit with good grade continuity;
  • Mineral Resource update planned for January; and
  • Metallurgical testwork program commenced on Dazzler drill core

Australian heavy rare earths producer, Northern Minerals Limited (ASX: NTU) (the Company) is pleased to announce further high-grade assay results from recently completed infill and step-out reverse circulation (RC) drilling at the Dazzler prospect, part of the Browns Range Project in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Assay results have been received for the first 12 (BRDR0037-0048) of the 51 drill holes completed at Dazzler in September. The significant assay results for these 12 drill holes are summarised in Table 1 below.

The drilling program focussed on the area of the scree slope below the scarp where previous drilling was undertaken. The drilling program was designed to step-out to the north of the previous drilling in order to update the existing Mineral Resource.

Corporate

Northern Minerals  Limited  (ASX:  NTU the Company)  is  focussed  on  becoming  the first  significant producer of  the  heavy  rare  earth  (HRE),  dysprosium outside of China.  The Company has a large landholding in Western Australia (WA) and the Northern Territory (NT) that is highly prospective for this element. Its current portfolio consists of three projects, the Browns Range and John Galt projects in WA, and the Boulder Ridge Project located in the NT.

Of these projects, Northern Minerals’ 100% owned Browns Range Project (the Project) is its flagship project, where it has a number of deposits and prospects containing high value dysprosium and other HREs, hosted in xenotime mineralisation.

Dysprosium is an essential ingredient in the production of NdDyFeB (neodymium dysprosium iron-boron) magnets used in clean energy and high technology solutions. As a result of increasing global demand for these applications dysprosium supply is critical.

The xenotime’s richness in dysprosium and other high value HREs, in combination with the mainly silica host rock, provides a key competitive advantage. It allows the ore to be significantly concentrated, up to 30 times through the beneficiation stage, with excellent recoveries. Northern Minerals has undertaken extensive testwork to develop a two stage process flowsheet, consisting of a beneficiation and hydrometallurgical plant, to produce a high value, high purity dysprosium rich, mixed rare earth carbonate product for export.

The John Galt and Boulder Ridge projects are at early stages of exploration, with both displaying similar mineralisation to the Browns Range Project.
