    if you are invested in a sector, in this instance "rare earths" it's only logical you track the competition

    if the sector has a leader, in this instance both Lynas and Molycorp are the rare earth leaders being the only rare earth companies in production - and you have an investment in some other rare earth company you measure and compare the progress of your company against the leader

    it's got everything to do with discussing your stock, and the sector you're invested in
