Study after study after study has demonstrated that the RET/carbon price added at most 5-10% to the cost of electricity. The rest came from over-investment in infrastructure based upon a combination of distorting regulations guaranteeing a fixed rate of return, combined with the failed assumption that demand would continue to rise. The net effect is that right now, even if coal-fired power were given away for free, rooftop solar would still be cheaper for the householder.

The fact is, fossil-derived CO2 is clearly a problem, the tide of world opinion has turned irrevocably against it, and it ain't coming back. You can choose to see this as an attack on your way of life, or you can choose to see it as a grand and exciting challenge to improve the way we live. Your call.

Cheers from an unrepentant arseole [sic].
