Tasmania paper the Mercury report that the Australian Antarctic Division operation manager Robb Clirton said the current sea ice conditions in East Antarctica were challenging . Since 1979 ,which is when records began. this is the greastest extent of sea ice we have had to deal with Mr Clifton said. Satellite images show that sea ice in Antarctica is at record levels, and expected to reach 20 million square kilometers for the first time since records began.
