I am against gratuitous killing, but as you say these animals are either bred to hunt or are on a cull list. They bring in big dollars and I believe the meat is distributed to local tribes. These animals have often also passed their prime and to be shot cleanly is a far better fate than dying in the wild over a period of sometimes weeks and being eaten alive by ants and maggots.
